"Chris immediately grasped the nature and scope of the project in hand and was able to devise an imaginative and thoughtful design and planting plan. This was done with consultation throughout to produce a tailor-made result to fit our budget and taste. Execution was seamless and reliable. We now have a wonderful garden which looks better every year."
Amanda and James, Shiplake.

A dark corner brought alive

Landscaping with a difference

• Consultation and advice on plants and features
• Garden design with drawings and descriptions
• Garden construction and planting
• Project management
• Bespoke design elements including mosaic

Garden Design
With each design brief Chris carries out a client survey to ascertain the customer's needs and wishes and their budget for a new garden. This is followed by a detailed site survey and analysis which gives Chris all the information necessary to create an accurate and workable colour sketch plan.

Garden Drawings and Descriptions
The plan is usually accompanied by perspective drawings or artist’s impressions to clarify certain garden features, along with a written description to help the client visualise the finished landscape.

Various Considerations
The garden design incorporates considerations such as structure, form and colour, year-round interest, wildlife, fragrance, sound, ornament, maintenance levels and sustainability.
  • Consultation
  • Client brief and site survey
  • Colour sketch plan
  • Perspective drawings and artists impressions as appropriate
  • A written description of the envisaged new garden
The Next Stage
Once the design is approved the next stage of the new garden is discussed. This will vary according to individual circumstances and the nature of the planned garden. Every garden design project is different and it may be appropriate to provide any, none, or all of the following services:
  • Planting plans and plant lists
  • Construction drawings and elevations
  • Master plan
  • Project management
  • Implementation of the design
Creative Gardening
Prime Design has evolved through various stages to become what it is now – a horticultural firm with an artistic approach. Christine Gibbs and her team are proficient in many art and craft skills complementary to gardens.

Decorative and Colourful Garden Features
Imagine that dark, dry spot in the corner of the garden where plants refuse to grow... there are other alternatives to brighten up the area. Some lateral thinking and a little imagination can usually solve the problem:
  • Mosaic: flat or three dimensional
  • Decorative tiling, pebble or cobble features
  • Garden sculpture, natural or man-made
  • Murals and trompe l’oeil devices
  • Creative colouring, staining and paint effects
  • Bespoke garden furniture and fittings
  • Green wood trellis and woven structures
Horticultural Help
For many years an artist and graphic designer with a love of gardening, Chris took up professional horticulture in the 1990’s and gained the National Certificate in Horticulture and Garden Design in 2003. Having worked in a diverse range of gardens for over twenty years, her plant knowledge is extensive and her approach to plant care guided by individual garden styles.
